Over the next few weeks, leading up to RIDETZ, we are going to be introducing the 11 wonderful, enthusiastic, and excited riders, who will be taking off on June 16th!  This way, you can learn about the riders before they leave, and then you can follow them through their journey on the blog as we post updates throughout the ride!  Today, we introduce Lisa MacKenzie.

1)     Where are you from?

I was born at Andrews AFB, and lived all over while I was very young, until my father retired from the Air Force.  Since I was in 7th grade, I’ve lived in North Carolina, with a 9-year stint in Chicago for work.  I’ve been back in NC since 2002 and love living here, but have traveled the world in the past many years.

2)     What do you do for work?

I work as a Realtor with RE/MAX in Chapel Hill, NC, and also do marketing, real estate and sales consulting work through my own business, MacKenzie Avenue, LLC.

3)     What do you like to do on your spare time?

What exactly is spare time?  I love spending down time with my children, family and friends.  Time by a pool or at the beach is my most favorite!

4)     Who is your inspiration in life?

My two children, Grayson and Ian, hands down.  Every day they inspire me to live a life of curiosity, kindness, and ambition. In my quest to raise them to be happy people in life, I find happiness in and of itself.

5)     How did you hear about RIDETZ?

My favorite intern IN THE WORLD, Kaitlin Rogers, agreed to accompany RIDETZ in 2010, and hearing her experience, as well as living the trip through her incredible photography was all I needed!

6)     What inspired you to want to ride this June?

Kaitlin 🙂

7)     Are you celebrating any milestone with RIDETZ?

This is probably the first trip/adventure that I’ve taken on FOR myself and BY myself since having children. As a single mother to my two children, 100% of the time, I don’t find many opportunities to do anything that is truly about me and the things that I am passionate about in life (children and education).

8)     What is your favorite place to ride? (besides Tanzania that is)

My favorite rides are from Chapel Hill out to Saxapahaw and in the area near Pilot Mountain where my family lives.

9)     What unique ways are you planning to fundraise?

I’ve had great success so far with personal outreach, but am more excited about a fundraising gathering that a friend has agreed to host at his business in Chapel Hill.  This evening will include raffles of donated items and the opportunity for straight giving.

We are so excited to have Lisa on the RIDETZ team!  If you would like to support Lisa’s RIDETZ campaign, you can do so here.
