May 25, 2016

In the time left before RIDETZ takes off, we will continue to introduce the wonderful, enthusiastic people who make up 2016’s team of adventurers. This way, you can learn about the riders before they leave, and then you can follow along on our blog for updates on their journeys as we post throughout the ride! They take off on June 18th for this once in a lifetime experience. Today, we are thrilled to introduce first-time rider and dedicated supporter of TFFT, Jason Sehorn!

Where are you from and what do you do for work?

I am originally from California, and now I work for ESPN as a college football analyst in Charlotte, NC.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy mountain biking, skiing, golf, traveling, and being a father to my three daughters (thats more life, not spare time). I am an athlete at heart, always have been and always will be.  I’ve enjoyed the competition that playing sports provided, whether it was competing against other people, the game, or the perceived boundaries of my body.  In short I like to push the limits of what I’m capable of doing, you can say I like to go.  Since retiring from football that outlet has been mountain biking. Putting some music in my ears and getting lost in the miles and miles of mountain bike trails or competing in the Leadville 100 mountain bike race in Colorado.

Who has inspired you?

My coaches. I played football in the NFL for 10 years and in college at the University of Southern California and junior college at Shasta. My coaches starting from Sunny Stupeck, the man who convinced me to play football in the first place, to Dennis Thurman at Southern Cal, to John Fox, my defensive coordinator at the Giants, they all played integral rolls in my life and career that inspired me to be a better athlete and person.

How did you hear about RIDETZ?

When I was at the S.O.S Gala that benefits The Foundation For Tomorrow in 2014, Barry Byrd had just done the ride and peaked my interest. The opportunity to help provide an education, the foundation upon which our future is built, is my motivation for this ride.  There is a scripture in the bible that says “to whom much is given, much is required”. I was given the gift of athletic ability and as a professional athlete I was given a platform, one which I’ve been able to and will continue to use to help others.

What inspired you to ride this June?

The opportunity to do something I love, while raising money and awareness for those without a voice in Tanzania.

Are you celebrating any milestone with RIDETZ?

Not really  – maybe my third time in Tanzania and seeing new parts of Africa

Where is your favorite place to ride?

Anywhere in the mountains, because of the elevation change, the trees, trails, no cars, no people, just getting lost in the woods on a mountain bike appeals to me.
