During this month leading up to RIDETZ 2016, we will continue to introduce our wonderful, enthusiastic team of adventurers. We hope you enjoy getting to know each rider before they leave, and don’t forget to follow along on our blog for updates on the journey as we post throughout the ride! They take off in one month for this once in a lifetime experience. Today, we are thrilled to introduce dedicated supporter of TFFT and 2014 rider who’s back for more, Katie Caniglia.

1) Where are you from?

Charlotte, NC by way of Chicago, Texas, and originally New Jersey.

2) What do you do for work?

I am the Founder & Executive Director of the non-profit online fundraising platform, ITRIFORGOOD. I’m also helping to grow innovative small businesses through my role as Managing Director of GCP, a diversified holding company. My favorite title and the job that keeps me on my toes the most…”Mom”, to Kieran (13) and Ellie (9).

3) What do you like to do on your spare time?

Hang out with family and friends, preferably outdoors and usually involving a competition of some kind. Otherwise, fly-fishing, hiking, biking, painting and cooking are at the top of my list when I have free time.

4) Who is your inspiration in life?

I am inspired by so many people on a daily basis…family members, friends and complete strangers. Inspiration can be found in the most unsuspecting moments and circumstances, so I try my best to be open and ready to see and appreciate it.

5) How did you hear about RIDETZ?

I first heard about RIDETZ from Meghann. I remember taking RIDETZ 2012 flyers over to a local triathlon/bike shop to help spread the word and thinking (maybe even saying), “I’m going to do this”.

6) What inspired you to want to ride this June?

I never thought I would jump right back in the saddle for 2016, but here I am. RIDETZ 2014 provided innumerable life lessons, treasured experiences, and a deeper connection to Tanzania (its people as much as its land). Family and work commitments as well as financial and physical conditions make participating in RIDETZ 2016 much more challenging (for me, personally) than 2014…but it’s easy to give when it’s easy to give. I want to give of my time, energy, and money when it seems the most difficult to do so. Riding in 2016 is about reaffirming my commitment to supporting TFFT and stepping outside of what is comfortable in order to learn and grow.

7) Are you celebrating any milestone with RIDETZ?

My birthday is June 15th so it’s exciting to celebrate in such a unique and meaningful way…I only wish my family could be there too!

8) What is your favorite place to ride? (Besides Tanzania, that is!)

I love riding in the mountains. The bike course for IM Lake Placid is the most beautiful ride (on a road bike) I have ever had the pleasure of pedaling through. North Carolina and Colorado have provided great times on two wheels too. Prior to training for RIDETZ, I had never been on a mountain bike. I had spent countless hours (days) on various road bikes, but mountain biking has captured my attention and heart now too.

9) What unique ways are you planning to fundraise?

I’m still figuring that out and I’m open to suggestions!!! Obviously, ITRIFORGOOD will be a big component. I’ve spent more and more time painting in the past few years and am planning to donate a large portion of the proceeds from the sale of all abstract art.
