Teachers are at the core of the success of any school and have a direct impact on the ability of their students to thrive in their education. However, few incentives are provided for those who have chosen a career in teaching. For many professionals to continue to strive for excellence in their field, there must be an understanding that their efforts will be recognized and, in some way, rewarded. Such recognition shifts the attitudes of professionals away from complacency, motivating them to try new things and develop their skill set further. This is where the concept for TFFT’s Teacher of Distinction Award originated and we have continued to see the importance of this recognition year after year.

This year’s award ceremony was held in April at Arusha Modern School where 16 teachers from TFFT-supported schools were recognized. These educators were awarded for excellence in many different categories including Most Outstanding Collaborative Teachers in Staff Reflection Best Practice, Most Improved in Student-Centered Teaching Strategy, Creative and Collaborative Teacher in School Teaching, and High Performance in National Exams for 2024.

These awards reflect the long-term impact of our Teacher Training Program, which continues to grow in reach and sustainability – empowering educators, strengthening schools, and transforming classrooms across the region. Excitingly, the Teacher of Distinction Award has been adopted and rolled out by the government and other like-minded organizations, creating a systems wide change.
